The Rest of Durbs

Charles & Lee's Wedding

It was amazing! Lee looked stunning and they were brave enough to do do a crazy first wedding dance with plenty of rapping and bum shaking! We partied hard and loved every minute of it!

Umfolozi Game Reserve

On the Monday after the wedding we headed to the game reserve. Rich loved it! It was gorgeous (see the photo of us at Hilltop Camp where the view was stunning). And having Rich with us definitely brought some pommy luck! We saw the big five (lion on two days running AND on our night drive) and on top of that we saw wild dogs with their kill, loads of hyena, impala, zebra and giraffe.

I was also lucky enough (not) to have a MASSIVE beetle cling to my finger (I squealed a lot).

Karkloof Canopy Tours

After coming back from Umfolozi we headed into the midlands to South Africa's second largest indigenous forest. We zip wired (foefie slides) on 8 different wires which add up to 1km. It was so pretty and really good fun.

We fly to Cape Town tomorrow where we have so much planned. More info will follow ASAP.

Love to all, email us some news!

Qualified Scuba Divers!

We did it!! It was pretty awesome although Rich and I have discovered that we get horribly seasick whilst on the boat. On our first dive we saw a turtle and rag tooth sharks! Amazing! We have now stocked up on seasickness tablets so we can start looking forward to our next dive.

Love S&R
PS: We have bought Sharks t-shirts in anticipation of going to the Currie Cup rugby final next weekend!

We've arrived!

Hi everyone! We arrived safely and even if there are lots of thieves in Joburg airport Rich wasn’t letting anyone have his stuff! His money belt was securely fastened even before we got off the plane, his bags were wound round his seat in the pub so no one could snatch them and he barely took his hand off his pint of Hansa in case someone tried to drink it!

After getting to Durbs we relaxed for our first evening with some beers and a braai. It was a truly South African braai with lots of different meat which we ate under the stars. I feel right back at home and Rich already loves the lifestyle out here.

Today we got woken up by the monkeys clambering over the roof. We soon discovered they had pinched our bar of soap (we have an outside shower), chewed most of it and spat it out on the front lawn. Stupid animals! But Rich loved them and I was soon ordered to take photos!

We soon left to visit Northdene Primary (my first school) and Pinetown Girls High School which was exciting for me! Then we headed to the famous Steers!! Amazing! Rich even gave his seal of approval! The chips were as good as I remembered.
But the highlight of our day was the trip to the bottle store (off licence) and to Bluff Meat Supply (the butchers). Rich was SO impressed that all the beers are kept in a big walk-in fridge, we could barely get him out! And the butchers was amazing! It was a HUGE shop where they cut the meat fresh off the animal carcass
and then give it to you. We will definitely be going back (mostly because we are having braais almost every night… Rich is in his element)

So far we are having a great time, we plan to visit a shebeen and witch doctor next week, do our scuba course and go see some Zulu dancing.

Love Sue & Rich.
